Chinese New Year

This year we are learning about Chinese New Year. I think it is a very intresting time of the year because it is a fun tradition ( and kids get off school for around 15 days!!!) and I bet all the Chinese people really enjoy the festival. Did you know that the Chinese use animals to symbolise each year and this year is the year of the ox?
On the first day many people abstain from meat because they believe it will ensure a long and happy life for them.On the second day the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as all the gods. They treat their dogs and feed them well as they believe the second day is the birthday of all dogs.On the fifth day the Chinese do not visit friends or family as they believe it will bring bad luck. They also have a special light show at 8:00pm every night of the 15 day celebration in Hong Kong.We would like to wish a happy Chinese new year to all our friends in St.Pauls`s convent in Hong Kong.
