Easter
In Easter there's Easter bunny,
He's jolly and he's funny.
He leaves me chocolate eggs,
In the morning I stretch my legs.
I have a look around,
There's eggs on the ground.
For a special treat,
I have some eggs to eat.
The eggs are very nice ,
I'd never give them to the mice.

Easter poem
Spring poem
Spring
I love Spring
It makes me want to sing
I love the breeze
Between my knees
When I see snowdrops
I know it's time to hit the shops
I hate when Spring is done
Because there won`t be that much fun

Spring poem
Spring
Today is spring,
It's like I have a extra wing.
The shine from the sun,
Makes play time more fun.
Flying high are birds,
All flying in herds.
And it's not that dark,
So we can play in the park.

Fashion in Rome
Men:
Underneath men wore a lioncloth. This is the only underwear they bother with and it's generally kept on at night. Over the top they wore a simple tunic. The tunic is deisigned to hang slightly at the back than the front ,which ends at the knees. Outside, they wore cloaks.
Women;
Women also wore simple underwear with a plain tunic on top. Over that they wore a long dress called a Stola. These are plain too, although women wore stoles of silk in dazzling shades including red ,blue ,yellow and purple.
The Colosseum:
Getting in and out:
There are 80 entrance arches ,all numebred expect for the four main entrances. Free tickets are given out in the morning. Each ticket has a number which matches an arch. You enter through the arch that has the same number as your ticket. Only men are allowed to sit in the first two Cavea. Women must sit above them , seprated by a wall. Behind the women is the outer wall where the standing room is and the slaves sit.
Don't let the number of people overwhelm you. The building can be evacutated in ten minutes. There is seating for 50,000.

By Rainbow
Adam is the main character of our story. He gets bullied at school. He has two friends named Niamh and Conor. He always sees a starling. The starling follows him to school,in school and wherever Adam goes. One day the bullies at school hit Adam with milk and sour milk. He stepped in a puddle the previous minute. One time he got beaten up and his money taken off him and got thrown into a bin by the bullies and one of the bully's big brother. Adam often goes to see his granddad who lives in a hospital for old people. His granddad has Alzheimer's which is a sickness when you think you are somewhere that you're not or someones someone that they're not. One day he had a substitute teacher. Her name was Ms Clarke she was very strict though they thought she was a student teacher. He got told off for looking and playing with the birds. She told him to go bird watching outside. One day a sixth class boy came into Adams class and said Rory,Shane and PJ[the bullies]were wanted at the principals office. They thought it was about him beating up Adam and throwing him in the bin and before Rory went out he said to Adam 'your dead'.
One day Adam was coming in from break and noticed Rory at his desk . The first thing he thought was whats he doing with my stuff. When he went over Rory was messing with the starling. Then the starling was banged off the window then Ms.Hill opened it.Ms Hill said sit down and try to do it quietly. Then everyone came up with suggestions.Adam stood at the backdoor.Ms Hill told Niamh to get her the towel and Ms Hill was just about to catch him.Adam shouted'stop'.The starling flew into the black board and fell on the ledge.Adam wrapped him in his jacket and ran outside and put him down.Niamh came out and told him that Ms.Hill sent her to come out and bring him in. Adam ran in and shoved all Shane and PJ's stuff on the floor. He also kicked Rory's desk harder than he ever kicked before. He also said to Rory 'what did he ever do to you'? and shouted now 'what did the starling ever do to you? and what did I ever do to you? Rory Brennan was now shaking. "what did I ever do to you?said Adam. He said "I'm not scared of you anymore",and shouting now "I'm not scared of you anymore!" Then their noses were touching.Adam whispered "I'm not scared of you anymore." Then Adam left the room. MS.Hill thought he had it coming. HE SURE HAD IT coming

Miss Clarke: Adam's Starling
Miss Hill is sick so Miss Clarke is the substitute teacher for a week.
Miss Clarke is very cross but sometimes she is nice.
Miss Clarke is very small, she looks like a student teacher.
Miss Clarke is a fully qualified teacher.
When Miss Clarke is cross she sounds like an FBI agent announcing himself, complete badge and gun.
Miss Clarke's voice is scornful.
Miss Clarke bangs on the desk when she is mad, she also bangs on the blackbord with the hard end of duster when she is mad.

Adam's Dad in Adam's Starling
Jim is Adam's dad .He has to do killer shifts at work. He hasn't been seen laughing with his wife Deirdre in a long, long, long time.Adam barely ever gets to see his dad. One day Jim took Adam to see Alien Empire but Adam had already seen the film but he didn't have the heart to say that to his dad.So they went of the Alien Empire. Adam thought it was just as good the second time as it was the first time. He still liked it. He is close to his dad but he doesn't tell him about the bullies.

Adam's Starling: Deirdre Adam's Mam
Deirdre is Adam's mom. She likes to smoke and bite her nails. She's a jolly and happy woman. Sometimes she can forget stuff. She got cross when Danny(her nephew)said that Adam was getting picked on at school. She was mad because she had told Adam to tell the teachers. She does not like Adam not telling the teachers about the bullying. When Adam goes to see 'Alien Empire'she gives him two five pound notes. She is very worried about Adam in school. She is always too busy for Adam. I think she could have gone into the school and told the teachers about Adam being bullied. When she went into the office about Adam she was very worried that he'd be in massive trouble but he wasn't. He only had to go on report. She works in a buisness. She is married to Jim ,Adam's father.

Visit from John Crowe
Yesterday the fifth of February John Crowe came to our school and showed us all of his guitars and his piano and he played a few tunes. He said that deaf people can 'hear' the guitars because they can feel the vibration and then know the notes in a tune . He also said that long string guitars have a lower pitch and guitars with shorter strings make lots of high pitched noise .
We learned lots from him about guitars we also learned lots about pianos. John gave a few of us a go on his guitars and at the end of the day we sang a song; Galway Girl' and recorded it and we made it sound like Alvin and the Chimpmunks and it was funny and everybody laughed and we all had a good time and I would like to say thanks to John Crowe! Thanks John.
John used Audacity to record the MP3 and we also use this for our podacasts. So today we made our own MP3s of the song 'as Gaeilge'.
Click on the player and click on the following to hear our work: Galway Girl, Cailin na Gaillimhe, Cailin na Gaillimhe Low Pitch and Cailin na Gaillimhe High Pitch.

The Feast Of Saint Blaise.
On Tuesday the 3rd of Feburary it was the feast of St Blaise. There were a few masses on that day and a lot of us went to them because we had the day off school because of the heavy snowfall over night. I went to the mass at 8 O'clock. At the start of mass Fr McGrath blessed our throats. It is said that there was once a boy that was choking and Saint Blaise said a few prayers over him and it saved his life. Fr John McGrath came into school today. He came at break-time and we said a few prayers and then he blessed our throats. I helped blessing people's throats. It was fun.

Adams Grandad from Adams starling
Adam's grandad lives in a hospital because his wife 'Eileen' died. Then he got very ill. He has Alzheimers. This is where he can't remember things and he finds it difficult to look after himself.
Grandad has quite big hands and has not got good eyesight. He has three daughters. Deirdre is one of them.
In the story she came into the hospital to see him,Adam was already there, she leaned over to give him a kiss but grandad did not recognise her and made her go away.Deirdre does not like it one bit. Adam really likes his grandad and thinks that he is really funny when he thinks funny things like;thinking that thay where in a train instead of a hospital, that he was in school and had to learn a poem before the teacher came back and he was in trouble for throwing stones in the yard and he thought the teacher was telling the master that they were bad. He thought that they were nine and that they would be in with the bigger boys next year .But Adam convisnced him that the teacher was saying good things to the master.
One time he was waiting for dinner to come. There was a pattern of fish on his plate and he was trying to eat it and called it 'tough meat'. I think Adam could not have stood up to Rory Brennan if it was not for his grandad. He helped him and told him to stand up for himself. When Adam stood up to Rory he kicked all his things around and ran out of the school with out permission and at first he did not know where he was going but then he realised he was going to grandad. Adam really loves his grandad.

Chinese New Year
This year we are learning about Chinese New Year. I think it is a very intresting time of the year because it is a fun tradition ( and kids get off school for around 15 days!!!) and I bet all the Chinese people really enjoy the festival. Did you know that the Chinese use animals to symbolise each year and this year is the year of the ox?
On the first day many people abstain from meat because they believe it will ensure a long and happy life for them.On the second day the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as all the gods. They treat their dogs and feed them well as they believe the second day is the birthday of all dogs.On the fifth day the Chinese do not visit friends or family as they believe it will bring bad luck. They also have a special light show at 8:00pm every night of the 15 day celebration in Hong Kong.We would like to wish a happy Chinese new year to all our friends in St.Pauls`s convent in Hong Kong.
Visit from Martin O Halloran
A man named Martin O Halloran came to our school. He was a teacher in Rome.He brought a book on Rome.
The best one was the test book. It was about home work. He told us a little bit
about the Colosseum. We asked him lots of question on the Colosseum. It was
interesting. He was there till two o clock. He said he would like to go back to Rome.
We told him we are doing are project on Rome. We told him all we know about Rome.
He asked us questions about Gladiators. We answered them. He asked what kind of animals they had in the Colloseum. We said that they used lions. There are 240 arches in the Colosseum.
In every arch there was a God. Martin told us how to make a St. Brigid crosses.
He had a lot of reeds. I made two of them. I had fun.

ST.BRIDGETS CROSS.
Today Mister O Halloran came to our school to teach us how to make St.Bridgets Crosses. He brought a lot of rushes. He showed all the class. He made one for each class. We had to help him make them. Everyone got too make one. It was hard at first but after a while we got the hang of it ,and it was easy from there. We had to put the rushs together, then we had to put elastic bands on the end of the rushes so they wouldn't fall apart. St.Bridget visited a sick man in hospital. She was telling him about God, but he wouldn't listen. There were rushes on the ground so she made a cross and it was called a St.Bridgets cross. We spent a long time making them. He brought a couple of examples to show us. It was very good and interesting.

Indoor hurling tournaments
On Monday the 26th and Tuesday the 27th of Janurary we played two indoor hurling tournaments. On Monday we went to the Clomnel sports centre on the Cashel Road. There were four teams. They were Ballyneale, Mayglass, Grangemockler and Kilvemnon. The refree for the game was Brian White. The teacher in charge was Miss O' Connell. Each match lasted for seven minites and there was no half time. Each team was only allowed to have six players out at once. Some rules were like normal hurling matches and others were different like the ball will be in play at all times except if the ball hits the roof. You weren't even allowed to rise the ball. In the end Grangemockler won it.
All the teams got medals and the winners (Grangemockler) got a lovely trophy made from glass. The tournament was organised by Cumann na mBunscol especially for the 125th anniversary of the GAA.
Today we played another blitz in Mullinahone G.A.A. There were four teams again. There was Mullinahone NS, Paulacapple, Newtown Upper and Kilvemnon. The rules were pretty much the same. It was really hard. All teams did really well. We are all really happy that we played. Paulacapple won and we came second. All teams that played got sliotars. All the games went really well. Thanks to Liam O Dwyer and Johnnie Cummins for organising today's blitz.

Christmas in Kilvemnon
On 25th of December it's kids favourite time of the year; it's Christmas. We had our Christmas tests on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They were English, Irish, Maths, Geography, History and Science. We all did really well bacause we are BRILLIANT! Christmas is not all about presents though its also a time for giving and who can forget Jesus's birthday? Our favourite parts of Christmas are presents, snow(sometimes) Santy, Christmas decorations, Christmas dinner, sweets, seeing all our family and friends, opening presents, Jesus's birthday, having fun in school instead of work, making and getting cards and wrapping presents and singing songs. Before we go all of the children in Scoil Mhuire Kilvemnon would like to thank the teachers and all of the staff and people who have helped us past the few years. Thank you and have a very Merry Christmas and we hope you have a happy new year and we hope one person in the staff named Sarah is having a child in Februrary so we wish her all the best over the Christmas holiday.

Horseriding and Dancing
I really enjoy horseriding and dancing but I prefer horseriding.I won the cups for dancing. I won the trophys for dancing but the horse one was for horseriding. The rosettes are for horseriding and the medals are for dancing. I think horseriding is easier but they are both really hard and you really need a lot of practise for them both!!
